This past Friday, the day after Thanksgiving Day, was a day that has become known as "Black Friday". The name is derived from the fact that sales from this date is what puts retail stores "into the black"; in other words, when they start making a profit. To push the profit margin even further, and to work the consuming public into a shopping frenzy, they put all kinds of items on limited-quantity, ultra-deep-discount sales, at an ungodly hour when most non-police-officers and non-hospital-workers should be home asleep.
Now, mind you, I have NEVER participated in this madness. People lose their minds; people have gotten seriously injured. But, I briefly kicked it around this year. There was one gift I wanted to buy, where I could've saved 70 dollars. I figured, heck, just go wait for 2 or 3 hours, no problem, right? That is, until I started reading up... and learned that people usually lined up at 4 or 5 in the afternoon on Thanksgiving Day... and waited until 5 am Friday morning.
SAY WHAT?
70 (dollars) divided by 12 (hours)... You don't need to be Charlie on NUMB3RS to figure out that that comes to just under six dollars an hour. I'm not saying how much I make, but I make a hell of a lot more than six bucks an hour. Not to mention that you get the privilege of freezing your ass off, and you have to give up your turkey dinner. Sorry, my time is worth WAY more than that. Y'all are just plain nuts.
Black Friday? Fuhgeddaboutit.

3 insane rambling:
I cried a little b/c I had to go to Walmart on Friday. Not because I was doing any crazypeople shopping, but because I needed some household things...But you know, I got a parking spot right up front and didn't get into any fistfights.

Why shop when everyone else shops?
11/26/2007You should just wait till it's on e-bay and you never have to leave your home!
